In Hazel Class we introduced East Harling Primary to the ways of Funky Fingers!
I am sure ALL the children have been telling everyone at home all about it, with many even setting up their own Funky Finger teaching teams at home. Edward could not believe that his big brother at the local high school did not get to do Funky Fingers!!!
So just in case you don't know, or have not seen it in action, this is for you!
Like all exercises, we begin with a warm-up. We do a series of exercises to music with a strong beat, including "Lasso", "1-2-3-4-5" and "Milk the cow." This works all the muscles from our shoulder joints down to our finger tips. Maybe the Hazelnuts have shown you some...?
Then we get down to one of our five weekly activities. Each day our groups takes part in a different activity so that by the end of the week, we have completed each one.
Most of us would all agree that Dough Gym is our favourite! We work a ball of Playdough to music using special moves. It can make our fingers ache- even Miss G's! We always do this once a week whilst the other activities all change.
We had to join the linking camels using our pinchy fingers.
Pegasaurus made his debut at East Harling! We had to use our pinchy fingers to place pegs on and off of the dinosaurs to give them their spines and spikes.
Miss G has been in the shops again!!! This time Wilkinsons' DIY department for Pick and Mix nuts and bolts. Everyone loved screwing these together! Fabulous finger work guys!
Pasta necklaces are always a firm favourite! Though that Penne can be a bit tricky at times.
We take part in Funky Fingers daily as part of our skill development in handwriting! Yes Funky Fingers is part of our timetable to help us develop the strength, coordination and control with pencil skills for our later writing skills. We love it and even have a sneeky boogie to the music!
